DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY AT THE UNIVERSITY OF TAMPA

HONEST REVIEW: I'm going to be completely honest about everything i say in this review because i do not want prospective students to make the same mistake i did. Now, if you are looking for a great college experience and a community with a group of students who you can call a family and make great memories with, this is not the school for you.

One, the school DOES NOT have any aspect of athletic student pride. In my opinion, athletics is one of, if not the most important factor that brings students together as a community. If tailgating, football games, rowdy student sections, and having that college feel is what you are looking for..this is NOT the school for you.
Two, the students' attitudes here are the absolute WORST thing i have ever come across in my educational career. This is probably one of the most unattractive thing this school has to offer. The girls are very stuck up and usually come from a rich background hence they do not know anything besides money and appearance.

The girls here are generally very clique-ish and are not accepting of people from different backgrounds. In about every 20 girls at this school you will find about 2 that are generally good, accepting, well rounded people. Now on the the fellas, EVERY GUY IS A FRAT DOUCHE. Whether they are in a frat or not, they all still carry the same egotistical personality. The guys here generally come from rich backgrounds as well and are not accepting of people outside of their circle either.

So do you see what i mean when i say the school has no community or family feel? The school's population is 60% White, making most students either openly or quietly racist. The school is also in the south where much of confederate support is located. DO NOT GET FOOLED BY THE PAMPHLETS AND VIDEOS. This school is essentially a preppy rich private school for kids who feed off of daddy's money.
The area surrounding the school is VERY DANGEROUS. The campus is not that big at all and it's very easy to get bored and it's even worse when you cannot explore the area around it without fear of being attacked. Students have been victims of armed robbery, assault, and stabs from walking along the outskirts of the campus. Again, do not let the admissions office fool you into believing this is the perfect school. If you think you will be living at the beach, you won't. The closest beach is 20 minutes away and unless you have a car you have no way of getting there cheaply, the uber drive will be well over $60 to get there and back.

Now onto the most important aspect of all, the education. For such a disappointing school in every other sense, I must admit the classes are not bad. The largest class you will have is a Science class that's right no lecture halls! Many of the other classrooms tend to have the high school setting vibe with the chair/desks and the professors speaking in the front go the room. The work is not difficult if you apply yourself.

The school is also not well respected, it is pretty much a joke to graduate schools. Many people have not even heard of the school and a degree from here is not highly looked upon, unless you are a nursing major. It is also VERY EXPENSIVE. One semester at this school is equivalent to an entire school year at a public university. Do not waste your money at such an unknown private university. If you decide to spend a great amount of money on college please do it at a well respected private instititute.

All in all, i would not recommend this school to a student who has high aspirations of become a better person overall. The school is for rich kids who need a bachelors and want to show off how much money they have while living in florida. If you want a real college experience i would recommend USF, the school is 100x in many ways. If you are not a rich, upper northeast kid, you will not enjoy your experience at this school.

You lost me as soon as you called most of the white kids racist. It seems like you have more of a race problem than the students because I have been here for four years and have not experienced any of what you speak including the bit about the confederate flag. This is nowhere close to a backwoods rural southern area.

Saying that students have been stabbed is a COMPLETE LIE. I have been here for four years and no student has been stabbed. Students have been robbed and accosted but have never been harmed and this ONLY occurs when students adventure off campus at night. We are in the city you can't do that here or in any city and think you are perfectly safe.

Saying you got bored easily on campus tells me you didn't really try and get involved. There are over 200 clubs and organizations and the university puts on events for the students all the time that range from movie nights to having comedians come and perform for students to many other things. Also one of the best things about UT is how much you have the ability to do off campus especially even within walking distance. The size of the campus is also a benefit because at USF you need a car to get across the campus because it would take you 45 minutes or more to walk across it.

This is not perfect school no school is but this was not an honest review you exaggerated several things and some of your statements were just plain ridiculous.

questionI am considering Tampa as an accounting major. Loved the visit to the school but after reading these reviews, I am second guessing myself. I am from the North but am liberal, not "a spoiled brat", like diversity, and am not "a spoiled brat". I'm not into drinking so extracurricular clubs and activities being available is important. Any advice or feedback appreciated!
responseI'm a senior finance major at UT from up north and from my experience the school is very diverse. The 3 most represented states and NY, NJ, and MA other than Florida but about 20% of the population is international and in the majority of my business classes you will have students from all over the place. As far as the extracurricular activities there are plenty for you to do. Just like with most colleges a high percentage of the students drink but there are those that don't as well. I wasn't big on drinking. I drank sometimes my freshman year but not as much as others and after that the rest of the time my drinking dropped considerably. UT is more of a party school than others but you can still have a good experience. It will be all about finding some good friends and joining the different organizations. Can it be harder for some who don't drink to have good experience yes but there are definitely others who will like what you do and enjoy the same activities you do. Other than that the business school is one of the best and all the prof are great and very helpful if you need it. You also need to be sure that you would be ok being so far from home. That is one of the biggest reasons I find that students transfer out
Thanks for quick response! I love to travel so being away from home not a problem. I have no problem hanging out with people drinking. I just personally don't care for alcohol. Some schools that's no problem, others there is pressure for binge drinking type thing.
responseNo Problem and yea I never had any issues with pressure to binge drink. If I wanted to drink I did if not my friends didn't care but I never drank so much that I blacked out. It seems like some make that their goal but I never did or had any pressure to.

responseRe: "Read This": You claim a lack of crime, yet wrote this response in 2015…smack dab in the middle of a murder trial for the UT Student who was murdered just off campus coming back to the dorms with friends. "No students have been stabbed in my 4 years here"- all I can say is take a look at the crime stats which are public record…this campus was given a "D" rating on a scale of A-F for safety by AMSS. As a former student there were multiple times I felt extremely unsafe and scared. This is my personal opinion. For anyone concerned with safety do your research…talk to the Tampa PD office closest to the school and request a crime report and stats so you can get real details and nothing sugar coated. When I've considered moving to new towns and areas I always go to the local PD departments to get info to find out if the area my perspective apartment is in is safe. I suggest students do the same for the colleges they are seriously considering, usually people have top 3's. Again, speak with actual off-campus police who have records of crime stats within the jurisdiction. With colleges their stats can seem skewed because they only count things that technically happen on their private property. If something happens a foot out of bounds, beyond a gate, even places where students are many times a day but is technically not property they own, they do not and will not count it in their crime statistics. This goes for literally all colleges/universities…I'm not directly referring to UT.
responseI argue some of your points. The "rich students, that come from the same background and are egotistical" Do a lot of public relations for students from denied and financially limited households. I see the Spirit life you are not happy with this campus. Thank you for your time. In support of our co - eds, maybe the guys should look for something else to make moms out of the women. That's all of us, probably.
