Walden University FNP and AC-AGNP programs are comparable in regard to the didactic component of other online programs, and like most similar programs the student NP must find their own preceptors, while daunting this is a doable task, however what is frustrating is the Universities affliation agreement department. The University alone negotiates contracts with prospective clinical sites, without student participation in the approval process, however I have found much too late that the personnel in this department are either uninformed or simply do not care enough to do their job correctly. I was told by a western regional manager that a large health system I had submitted as a clinical site for approval, only accepted their own employees, this is simply an untruth, so I was lied to and to make matters worse, he informed me, I am sure without intent, they had this information 3 months prior, I wonder if I had not called if they would have told me at all. There are multiple complaints on the student forum on the universities website in which student complain bitterly, are frustrated, receive very little or no help to resolve clinical site approval issues and frequently, are simply dropped from classes without their knowledge. While I feel that the didactic portion of my education is average, the support from the university, and their ability to perform their contractual obligations is abysmal. Many students are either forced to change their focus of their program just so as not to waste money, or walk away and start again with a more reputable school. This was a mistake, and I regret having gone as far as I have in this program. Walden University is a very poor choice for FNP education, I only wish I had chosen more wisely. Do your due diligence prior to enrolling, they simply do not live up to their hype.
