Juniata College could be the place for you. But it is not for everyone. If you are thinking of applying or going to Juniata please, please, visit the school. If you don't instantly feel connected to the school, do not go. You will not get that feeling when you are here. You either feel it or you don't.

Postive:

  • The Professors
  • The Sodexo Staff
  • Negative:

  • Everything Else
  • The Professors are the best part of Juniata. They really really care about YOU as a person, as a student, and as a member of society. There are some professors that really suck but because the school is so small, people know who they are so you can avoid them.

The Professors are passionate about what they are teaching, they get excited to share with you what they are learning and cannot wait to answer your questions. Most professors have flexible hours and emailing them is quick and painless.

Classes range from normal lecture but most classes are heavy in discussion. So if you do not like discussion look for classes that are more lecture based.

There are field trips and research opportunities. the professors also take your interests into consideration and perspective. They allow you to use their class to further what you want to do.

The Sodexo Staff and the Janitors are wonderful people. The food sucks but the staff knows it and tries to make it bearable by being so kind. They can really help you if you have allergies. The Janitors are kind and tend to out of site but we appreciate them and they appreciate us.

    Now for the Negative.

    Social Life

The school is very clique. Once a friend group is made, it is almost impossible ot break through. However, everyone is nice, like too nice. The school and the students are all about saving face. It's very fake. You will hear about community but there really isn't some. Like sure, if you were drunk out of your mind, someone may try to take care of you…but there are also the chance no one will care.

People tend to care more about themselves and what they can achieve. If they need you, they will use you.

There is nothing to do on campus, like nothing. On the weekends its either, drink, netflix, or more homework. There is not a lot to do here but when you visit you will see that for yourself.

A lot of people drink and if you don't no one will peer pressure you to but people won't hang out with you either.

    Admissions and Residental Life

There has been a lot of problems with Admissions and Residental Life at the moment.

Juniata is having a hard time maintaining and gaining students so they had to cut some stuff out of their budget.

Off Campus Housing is the main issue that is affecting students right now because Res Life rejected almost all offers from Rising-Seniors who wanted to live off campus this coming year. In doing so, now Rising-Juniors-Sophomores will be stuck living in crappier housing.

All the dorms are crap (Minus Nathan but that costs extra).

Not enough people decided to attend Juniata and a lot of people transferred out. To make up for that lost, Juniata has to force people on campus so that the money stays with them. Juniata does own some off-campus housing but a lot of students would lease from people in the town.

Juniata will tell you how prestigious this school is…it is not. At least, not anymore. I've heard great students from pass students and Seniors about how much the school cared about their students but that is currently changing because of Juniata's budget. We are becoming more like $$$ than people.

    General Stuff

    The town sucks.

    The food sucks.

    Basically life sucks.

If it wasn't for my professors I would have dropped.
