While considering this University be clear about what you are looking for and review all the obstacles you might come across. I did not while choosing the university first hand. I focused on the reputation. The outcome of successful students. I bypassed the particulars the jokes and comments made by others because I was already set in my decision. This was not a good idea. At Hampton you will find many things and many people telling you to look at the bright side. I would recommend that you avoid being disillusioned at all cost. The administration is the biggest obstacle at Hampton. The first thing I would do would be to read the university's policy. If you are coming from an environment that is very traditional it may work for you, however with my experience the entire institution is substandard and the education is subpar. If you are a person that is a quick mover, loves to explore, and "get/be in the mix" this is not the right school for you. There is a strict amount of rules that students must follow. All the organizations and the biggest organizations on campus are based off elitism. There truly isn't an equal footing and students and faculty careful choose who they want. My first year I have had more than one friend leave the university for lack of financial aid. You do not want this. College is one of the biggest investments you will make in life and not gaining any support with that investment is very difficult. You will read comments of many others saying that the administration treats you as if you are a number. This is a very true statement. There on average has been 1 young adult that has died at the university each year. Hampton is a very small school. It is very strict also, the university keeps certain things under control so for a student to die each year younger than the age of 22 is a huge deal. Hampton students are targeted by the surrounding area. Hampton students have a reputation of coming from wealthy families, presenting themselves well, etc. This is not a good look whether it is a true representation of you or not. Students have gotten robbed by locals to the point where the university built a gate to keep out crime. These last to statements maybe be overlooked because you will come across this problem everywhere. The meal plan, you will not be able to avoid it at all. Unless you live off campus they will force you to partake in it. This is not good especially if you have an underlying condition and must avoid certain foods. The health center, another huge factor. The health center is only caters to specific issues. If you do not have an std or the flu, you will not be helped at all. Take that into consideration. Hampton also makes it very difficult for underclassman to have their vehicle. My RA had to call the ambulance when she was having an allergic reaction. None of us had a car and the health center was inaccessible. This is very serious and should not be overlooked. Communication. There is a lack of communication between faculty. If you do not look at this as something serious than have your parents review this information. Also if you run into any issues which you will Hampton's Administration does not respond well to student complaints. They will most likely only speak to your parents about an issue. I can go on and give you a list of things that are wrong with the school. My advice would be not to go, even if it was your dream school. The academics aren't challenging. You will take unnecessary classes, that are not core/basic classes. A lot of the students do not speak proper english. If you are writing a paper for a class and need assistance instead of offering assistance a teacher will most likely read your paper aloud and allow your classmates to ridicule you. If you are comfortable with this than this is a place for you. I will not say there a good things because the reality and truth was that there weren't any good things. The only thing positive I experienced at Hampton was camaraderie.

My Top 5 Reasons you should reconsider this school as an option + a Bonus#

1. The Administration

2. The Health Center

3. The Policy

4. Lack of Financial Aid

5. The Academics

6. The personality of the Faculty/Staff
