Hi Sally Duke! |
Major: Music - Composition/Theory (This Major's Salary over time)
Horrible school policies, uncomfortable environment, hypocritical about women's safety, rights, and justice. Bullying and physical & verbal sexual harassment runs rampant by several professors in the Music and Art / "Art & Technology" departments, currently employed there. And if you go to the school authorities for help about harassment issues they will do nothing to help you, are dismissive, and uncaring. Professors with tenure seem to be especially immune to any reprimand for misconduct and are more prone to blatantly harass the victims of their choice, especially those who refuse their advances. Personally went through many experiences of harassment; ranging from inappropriate behavior to full on abuse from several professors, including some male grad students, throughout my studies at Mills. Also knew other women who experienced similar issues of harassment. There are very few professors in those departments that have integrity, are fair, and are quality professors; I tried to focus on their classes and coursework for my education. Was there on full scholarship and managed to stay and graduate with an A average despite feeling traumatized throughout my entire time at Mills College. Realized later that my education at Mills was not free but paid for with the debasement of my wellbeing while there and additionally having to process, cope, and heal from the trauma after graduating. Limited amount of worthwhile coursework in the Music and Art departments and ironically a terribly unsafe environment for women. 04/ 10/ 2017
