Major: Education (This Major's Salary over time)
This review will be more about my experience with the instructional design masters program more than the university itself, but I will try to talk about that a little bit.The instructional design program here is awful. Most of the teachers are stuck up dbags who have zero interest in helping you and are more concerned about their own research. This seems to be a big problem in big universities national wide, both undergrad and grad programs, but is easily seen here. The quality of education is abysmal. None of it will help you find a job easier nor really teach you anything useful, yet the teachers talk about their learning theories like they are gospel. The learning environment is similar to a cult in that the people teaching it tear you a new one if you basically dont agree with them on everything they say. Its a great program if you wanna fill your mind with nonsense and feel depressed all the time.Program lies its ass off to get students. I had to pay most of my tuition out of pocket since I was under the impression that there was a decent amount of TA/GA work here for tuition waivers. There isnt. Its all given out to those applying with better grades and theres no room to prove yourself. I didnt have the best undergrad grades (still enough to get in some how) and figure I could work my way up, but nope. No jobs are posted online, most postings are outdated, nobody here wants to take time to speak to you, other departments tell you to go somewhere else, and all there is left for work are minimum wage jobs that require full time enrollment. In terms of the university itself, its mainly a party college. Nobody here gives a crap about much outside of getting drunk and hooking up. Seems great if your right out of high school, but for anyone whos already experienced all that, theres nothing really else going on. Networking/Employment opportunities really go to those in the greek system or those who know been here and already know the right people. Not a good place to meet working people or to break your way into new work. And Tallahassee as a city is AWFUL. Surrounding areas of FSU are mostly ghettos with crack heads. Lots of theft happening here and lots of stupid crap happening. The decent parts of Tallahassee are far away from FSU, so if you wanna live decent prepare to commute 15-20 minutes to school since traffic is bad for a small town with such narrow roads. Economy here is also bad since its mostly cheap government jobs that dont pay well. Not a great place to live since the city's economy is based around milking 18-20 year olds and no real work is done here.Overall, FSU is cool if your young, wanna party, wanna join the frats or sororities for a year, wanna watch the seminoles destroy people in football and to have fun via partying. Outside of that, its very overhyped with not much else going on. Not really a great place to get an education since the quality of life in the city is so bad and opportunities to get ahead are far and few. Do not go here unless you havent experienced college since thats what this place caters to.
