Major: Fine Arts - Painting/Sculpture/Photography/etc (This Major's Salary over time)
Don't get an art degree to get a job. Get an art degree to spend time making and studying art. I got roped really into studying art and art history, and facing the real world, ended up going into the Art Edu masters program to get a job teaching art. There were two problems with this: 1. There were and are almost no job openings for art teachers in NYS, particularly in the Syracuse-Oswego area. If someone dies, maybe or if someone really really likes you and will speak for you.2. At that time, the art edu program did not adequately provide me with adequate skills and basic tools to be an art teacher.3. Student teaching is done at the end of the program, so you don't find out what really being in a classroom is like until the end. maybe it's different now. Theory was taught, but very little about lesson ideas, lesson planning, etc… Both the teachers I student taught under were middle aged, overweight, divorcee stoners. I thought I could teach better than them.
