Hi! Based off your review, I'm not sure if you have ever been to Corvallis or OSU. Corvallis is a very lively college town, and restaurants are CONSTANTLY looking for employees—and the OSU jobs page is literally always looking for more service staff in the dining halls. I have never once had an issue with the area being too white or too conservative—I'm from D.C. and I came here BECAUSE it was less white and conservative. I have never once had a *bacc core taught by an assistant—sometimes labs and recitations are taught by grad students, but that's because they are large classes and the professor cannot physically teach that many classes (for physics, there are at least 20). Also, I notice that your major is chemistry! If you've taken organic chemistry, I'm sure you'll be happy to find that the labs are taught by the professors. As result though, the class size for the lecture is limiting and a lot of students have to wait an extra year to get into Ochem. Lastly, the dorms are not set by major. Please review again when you've actually attended OSU! |
Major: Chemistry (This Major's Salary over time)
Corvallis is the middle of nowhere. There's no entertainment or shopping. Off campus rentals are run down and expensive for what you get. Jobs around town are very hard to find. The locals are very white and conservative. Greek life and sports dominate campus culture. Most back core classes are taught by assistants because professors only care about research. Dorms are set by major so it doesn't matter if you have a roommate in mind already.
