I studied American Sign Language Interpreting and the faculty is biased (you don't kiss butt, you don't do well). They do not nurture educational goals. For example, I wanted to become a legal interpreter and was constantly told, "It takes years of experience, so don't focus on that right now." Even in class assignments they would tell us not to choose topics involving legal and medical interpreting for the same reason.
