Loyola University Chicago is a Jesuit institution, and as such focuses on not only preparing students to move on in their chosen field of study but also provides a very rigorous core curriculum. The core curriculum will expose you to a little bit of everything (literally!), and in my opinion is one of the strongest qualities of a Loyola education. And of course, in addition to the core you will have the opportunity to be a part of an excellent department providing any number of ways to get involved and challenge yourself to grow and learn.

The Lake Shore Campus is not party central or the home of a large Greek system, and is indeed a smaller (yet beautiful!) campus relative to many. Yet this is also, in my opinion, one of Loyola's strong points. The smaller campus allows for and fosters a close knit student community. But don't be fooled, because the Lake Shore Campus is actually only one of several Chicago campuses that make up Loyola (others include both medical and law campuses and the Water Tower Campus in the heart of Chicago's "Magnificent Mile"). And besides, when you are ready to cut loose and party all you have to do is hop on the "El"evated train and head downtown to one of the country's greatest cities!

The reason I initially chose Loyola was because it offered me a chance to come to the big city and strike out on my own, while at the same time receiving a top notch education at a great value (thanks to the generous financial aid package offered to me by the university). What I got was all that and more!

Anyone who would like to know more about Loyola can feel free to write me at (notice the use of a zero and a one in r0ygb1v!)! Good luck with your search for a college!

Responses
questionSeveral comments make note of the fact that the social life at Loyola University, Chicago, is deficient in some ways.

Would an out-of-state (NJ) student, with progressive Democrat views, easily make friends and have social outlets on campus? Would an art history major who is interested in issues surrounding social justice and the promotion of liberal public policy, but also wants to have fun, easily find like-minded student friends on campus? Would there be ample opportunities, within the Loyola University campus environment, for a vibrant social life?
