The United States Air Force Academy is an excellent educational institution. I feel as though I could have not recieved a better education due to many factors including small class sizes, highly qualified instructors, and limitless opportunities to talk personally with your instructors and recieve tutoring and extra instruction. You will have professors with PhD's willing to remain for 1-2 hours after class with you personally to help you with your work. None of the educators there are getting paid to do research, they are getting paid only to teach, meaning that 100% of their effort is focused on teaching students. Keep in mind, however, that the purpose of the US Air Force Academy is to train the best military officers in the world. It is both physically and mentally demanding to the point that many students are not able to handle it. Understand that after two years there you will be forced to commit a large portion of your life to the US Air Force. Currently you must serve 5 years after graduation for all jobs except that of pilots and navigators. Pilots and navigators will incur a 10 year commitment after graduation from both the Academy and a year of UPT (Undergraduate Pilot Training)
The education is excellent, the friends you make there will remain friends for life, and you will test the limits of your mind and body. It will also probably be the hardest four years of your life as it was for me.
