Don't be afraid to get involved in campus activities beyond the parties and general roommate socializing. Looking back I wished I had stayed in the on-campus dorms rather than in off-campus dorms. I think there are a lot more opportunities to meet people and "get involved" in things if you are actually on campus.

My office campus dorm was fun but I think I would have joined more activities and groups had I been in an on-campus dorm situation.
