Watkins Film School is a scam. They might be accredited, but under a magnifying glass that can easily be crumbled. The level of education is of a high school media class. Faculty have been the same for the last 12 years. No diversity in faculty, teaching, opinion and goals. Filled with passive, scared, incompetent, uninterested and shallow faculty. None of these so called instructor have a teaching degree. And sadly, they all lack the natural, god giving talents of teaching. Three out of five full time faculty members went to the same grad school. They shot 2 to 3 films then decided to teach this art form to others. Neither one of the 5, except one- who is not one of the 3-is a working artist. He is a writer who wouldn't even know how to turn a camera on let alone know what film was. There has been no changes in the level and the way of teachings at Watkins. The faculty members do not welcome challenges and do not welcome change. They are set with their old ways and very stubborn. The winner of this award goes to Van Flesher. I smart-ass, passive, non-confrontational, boring, untalented person. Van Flesher had an affair with a student years ago and move to California. Due to the lack of interest, excitement and energy, Watkins failed to find a decent working cinematographer who had the skills of teaching. Instead they brought back Van Flesher to continue the damage he has been doing to the curriculum, school and students' future. He totally lacks the ability to teach. He rather talk during the whole class time. To put it nicely, Van Flesher is a pest and a thorn to Watkins Film School. He acts and looks like a person who is waiting to be put out of his misery. Why should students spend their time and money for an incompetent, skill-less, uninterested instructor? Why should students sacrifice their future because the Film Department at Watkins never had and still doesn't have the balls to change things, fire people or simply raise the bar. They instead change everything else around this pest and a poor excuse for an instructor. Watkins Film School has demonstrated over and over again that they have always missed the ball, refuse or lack the talent and interest to be involved with the film community in town, have always refused change, have never replaced a incompetent instructor, and have diminished the idea of hope and change for better. It's a shocking reality that Watkins Film School has lasted this long. It's all do to marketing lies and targeting young innocent kids right out of high school. But %95 of all the students regret ever coming to Watkins by their second or third year and find the cruel fact that it is too late to turn back time. So they are forced to continue a program which is not helping them at all, while they spend the rest of their time complaining about everything. Watkins College of Art & Design by its choice of procedures and poor choices of selecting deans, have taught students over and over again that complaining, or giving suggestions about an education they are paying so much money for has always been useless. So the reality is that the people in the administration offices including the president and the dean no the LEAST about the department. Unfortunately, the are no smart enough to ask and communicate with students while they attend the school and more importantly after they graduate. Our president is a great guy, but unfortunately his personal religion is based on academia. He judges and treats people based on their degrees and not wisdom, knowledge, experience, common sense and all the other tools available to a human being. In conclusion, Watkins Film School is a very sad school with little or next to nothing change, hope, excitement and positive energy. Unfortunately the lack of knowledge of the majority of the film graduates directly reflects the lack of knowledge, encouragement, excitement and competent of the film faculty and the school's administration as a whole. Please do more research and look else where. Thank you!
