I went back to visit after several years away. I had hoped the new President would have helped matters - he has not. The buildings are still in serious disrepair, support services lacking, underqualified faculty, and the campus just seems demoralized and in survival mode. The small classes are helpful, and you can get a decent education out of the place, but make sure you do the following: 1. find a small group of similarly serious students to study with 2. use this network to help you ignore the greeks, athletes, and drunks that are going to harass you 3. find faculty with real degrees from real schools that are writing and presenting in their teaching field and take as many classes as you can with them (pol.sci. master's degrees were teaching advanced economics courses; math profs without PhDs were teaching art history…what are they doing?) 4. take as much math as possible - you will need a killer GRE score to get into a good grad school 5. build in the time/cost of a Master's degree from another school unless you are in a teacher certification program.Alumni gathering was depressing. A bunch of old drunks and athletes going on about their glory days of 0-9 football and all-night keggers. Defaulting on student loans was a badge of honor. This place needs an adminstration that cares about education. Their faculty are underpaid and perpetually demoralized. The support staff appears to be expendable, and demoralized. Many students were not showing up for class, and the library was empty(!) the week before final exams.
