I
went to a medium sized prep school for most of
my high school years, and I was very excited when
I was accepted into the school that claims to be
New York's “public ivy”. However my jubilation did not last
long. Upon arriving to the school, I immediately found myself
friendless, not because I am the loner type (I consider
myself very friendly), but because everyone else had friends from
their high school there. They didn't seem to want to
make any more friends. Then the classes were very
easy. Even though Geneseo touts itself as having a very
difficult Bio program, I glided through all my classes with
ease, not really having to put forth any effort. I
am not, by any means, a genius, but I did
take a few APs in my high school, and they
were far harder than any of the courses I took
(even in the Honors program).
The weather is also
atrocious. The first few weeks of school were absolutely ideal,
but in October, I had to break out my winter
jacket. I'm originally from upstate NY, but the weather is
UNBEARABLE. DO NOT COME HERE IF YOU LIKE TEMPERATURES ABOVE
10 DEGREES!
For the most part, the people aren't super
friendly. A lot of the girls are very fake and
insincere. And the guys act like bigshots. However, I did
manage to find a few really good people at the
end of my first semester, but they were just as
miserable as me.
Finally, the social life revolves around
drinking and partying. I do like my fair share of
parties, but partying every weekend gets boring very quickly. The
LateKnight program is actually very good though! They bring in
lots of comedians and other fun acts. However, not many
people attended these events while I was there, because they
were all too busy drinking.
Overall, SUNY Geneseo may
be the place for you, but it wasn't for me.
I don't like fake people, easy classes, or ice cold
falls, winters, and springs. I transferred to American University my
sophomore year, and I LOVE IT! Good luck with everything!
