I graduated from Purchase in 1979 and I am very pleased to have gone there. For the price of a state university I received an excellent liberal arts education with small classes taught by PhDs who were interested in teaching, I had a lot of individual attention. Students in the school of the Arts were at a conservatory level program in music, drama, dance, etc. and were role models for us liberal arts students in that they were committed to their work in a way that is unusual for people that age. Purchase was a place for "misfits" who were bright and creative and did not want to go to a SUNY Binghamton and be one of thousands.
