Major: Math (This Major's Salary over time)
I am an Applied Math / Mathematics double major and a physics minor. Personally I think this school is awesome for my major and other similar majors (physics, engineering, pre-med). However, there seems to be a real split between those who are really here to study because SBU is one of the best schools in the country for their major, and those who are here because "eh, aren't I supposed to go to college?" or that this is the place to get laid. There are lots of us-and-them groups around, and seemingly little cooperation between them. The greek life is huge, but rather uninvolved in the area I tend to hang around in. I would also like to point out that it seems to me that a good 60% of the population smokes pot on a regular basis (with the exception of us science/math geeks, for some reason… I know I don't). If you are looking for a very good mathematics school (Physics and other sciences are excellent as well) at a great price, Stony Brook should rank high on your lists. (BTW, Binghamton hasn't got a thing on us when it comes to science and math; engineering, maybe…)
