Major: Communications (This Major's Salary over time)
Syracuse has everything I wanted out of a college. I am getting a great education, have good friends and a very active social life, am involved with extracurriculars, and I feel that I am being prepared well for my future. Additionally, the campus is beautiful and the sports are excellent.

The Schools of Communication, Architecture, Visual and Performing Arts, and Citizenship are all nationally ranked, and most of my classes in the Arts & Sciences School have been good as well. A great majority of my teachers are very helpful, interesting, and knowledgeable, and while most first-year classes are big, the TAs are usually very competent. I am very happy with my major - advertising - and I am learning a lot about that field while still being able to take many interesting classes in other areas of study. The Study Abroad program here is also outstanding and Career Services is good with finding internships and jobs.

Social life here is amazing. So many of my friends at other schools are unhappy with their social scenes, but I can't say anything bad about Syracuse's. Greek life is big and is a forum where you can make great friends and have lots of fun. However, it isn't the only thing going on. Everyone goes to the bars and restaurants on Marshall Street and has a great time, and there are always off-campus parties. The city itself isn't very good as far as culture goes, but it isn't as bad as people say. If you were expecting an NYC-like night life, then you shouldn't have come here in the first place. There's a huge mall five minutes away, and the school offers things like ice skating and movies for those who don't want to drink.

The stereotypical Long Islanders definitely go here, and there are a lot of them, but not all of them are bad, and they are certainly not the majority. I have friends from all over the country, from many different types of backgrounds. For the most part, kids here are down-to-Earth and smart, if a bit sheltered due to largely upper-middle class, suburban upbringings. Syracuse students love to have a good time, but are also serious about their studies.

The alumni network is huge, and I can already see it helping me. Sports are huge, too, and the Carrier Dome is amazing. Dorms are pretty good compared to other schools' I've seen. The campus is gorgeous and has many different types of buildings and a great quad. The student body is large, but it doesn't seem that way until scheduling and housing sign-ups come around - the school can sometimes screw you that way. That's really my only complaint, other than the weather, which sucks and absolutely IS as bad as people say it is. But obviously for me, and just about everyone I know at Cuse, all the other great aspects of the school make up for a little snow every now and again.
