Well, as a high school senior, getting that acceptance from Syracuse University was a great day. All of what I heard from the school were positive things, academics were great, sports were great, the overall campus was great, and the weather was average to say the least.

Boy was I let down. First off, this school is 53k a year… what a joke.

Academics - I was originally planning on becoming a mechanical engineer, so my first semester classes were mainly hard math-type classes. The problem with these, was that 2/4 of my teachers could barely speak english. I don't know about you, but I think this is a pretty important part of going to school; being able to understand what your teacher is saying. The course work was very boring and was all basic stuff that I could teach myself through a simple online CC. My 2nd semester, i got into Whitman, the business school at Syracuse. What I noticed about every class was that almost 90% of students in Whitman were in greek life, and come every quiz or test day, you could just see big groups of 10-15 students passing around their quiz/test to every brother.

The only programs worth noting are the Communications school and Architecture school. Every other program is just about average, and definetley not worth the money.

The campus is average, but the thing is you never actually get to see it. It starts snowing in November and doesn't stop until mid April. And when its not snowing, its cloudy or raining, and its always windy. I grew up in the northeast, but this place was just rediculous.

The food actually isn't half bad, I actually enjoy the dining halls because they do offer very healthy choices everyday. But the dorming is terrible, almost every room is as small as possible and overall leads to a terrible dorm-life experience.

The basketball and lacrosse team are top-notch which is nice, but I find that both of those games, because of how the team plays, to be very boring to go to unless you are drunk.

Overall, I would not reccommend this school to anyone. If I could go back a year, I would go as far away as Syracuse as I could, and thats what i plan to do next year.

Save your money people, Syracuse is not a prestigeous school, partly because over 60% of applicants are accepted nowadays and that simply, the education isn't even worth 15k a year…

commentAcceptance rate is not indicative of whether the school is great and nearly all private schools are expensive, since its upstate there are disadvantages.
