If the point of an education is to lead into some sort of success in career and subsequent academic life, I must say that Syracuse was not worth it, in my case.

After graduating decades ago I have found no real jobs above minimum wage, almost no jobs in my field (almost no jobs in any field). The Syracuse name opened one door for me just once - a freelance-contract position that nabbed me about $350 before the business shut down.

That's it, $350. Yes, the historic campus provides all sort of intellectual/recreational experiences, and I was somewhat fond of the city. But try to pay for mortgage/rent, heat and groceries with good memories. Your friends (if any) from the student body won't stay in touch after graduation, job-placement among the alumni seems to be inadequate, and if you want to be employable after graduation, I'm afraid that aside from a few enclaves on the east coast (New York City, Boston especially, I'm told), a Syracuse degree impresses nobody. At least mine didn't, in the rust-belt where I unfortunately live. Wish I'd gone to another school, closer and cheaper.
