UR is tough. If you're not willing to work and concentrate on your academics, then it's probably not the school for you! With that said, if you are looking for an academically challenging school, UR is a perfect choice! Professors are helpful and approachable. I have never had trouble meeting with or getting to know a professor here. The students are great, as well. There are people from everywhere, which makes things interesting. I have friends from Texas, California, England, and so on. There is a lot of diversity, and every single person on campus is talented in his or her own way. There are definitely things to do on campus and off, so you can't really get bored. The fraternities are popular places to go as a freshman or sophomore, but after that, most people just go downtown. Support for athletics is getting much better here! There are always people at the men's and women's basketball games, plenty of people at football games (even though the team isn't really good), and many people attend the soccer games, as well. All of the teams on campus do very well, and many are nationally ranked! The food on campus isn't too bad, it just gets old, as I'm sure it does at any school. We now have a Starbucks, which is always packed! The school shows newly released movies every Friday and Saturday, and that's pretty cool. Most importantly, the living situation is great! I had a huge room as a freshman and have been in great rooms ever since. I am living in Riverview now, the new apartments over the river, and I love it! A huge plus is that everyone has their own bathroom in Riverview!! One downside to this school is the parking! They are crazy and will never hesitate to ticket your car if it's parked illegally. Parking passes cost over $300 for the year, which is insane! If you aren't going to use your car often, it's probably not worth it. There are buses and other methods of transportation to get around the city. Another negative factor is the weather. If you don't like windy, rainy, snowy, and cold days, Rochester is not for you! Everyone here looks forward to sunny days, because there aren't many at all! The weather can be brutal, but once spring rolls around, people come out of the woodwork to be outside! Late spring, summer, and fall are really beautiful here. Other than that, I think it's an amazing place to be. I wouldn't change going here for anything. I know it's very expensive, which is a huge sacrifice, but if you work hard, it's worth it. I have met wonderful friends, had amazing experiences, and will miss it so much when I graduate in 38 days.
