Major: Economics (This Major's Salary over time)
The University of Rochester focuses on the students. The open curriculum welcomes students who want to learn, which creates a great academic environment on campus. Not only can you take whatever classes you want, right from day one as a freshmen, but you can also create your own major and study for a fifth year, completely tuition free. Although it is a research university, all the faculty must teach classes as well so you get first hand research in your lectures. This also makes it incredibly easy to get involved with research as an undergraduate (and this extends beyond the natural sciences, UR has great social sciences and humanities as well). Students are friendly and there is a moderately sized group that will go out to the local clubs and bars and to fraternity parties. Recently the administration has been cracking down on alcohol/drug violations which has cast a bitter taste in a lot of students' mouths. I hope the future of the university is not one of boring Friday nights and constant patrolling from security and RA's.
