Major: Political Science (This Major's Salary over time)
I don't know, maybe it's because I'm in the social sciences, but I'm fairly disappointed with my experience at Case. Everything you hear about the place being boring with very little to do and a lot of social retards is true. I feel like there is absolutely nothing to do on campus, and whenever I want to go off campus to do something (I'm from the Cleveland area, so I know my way around), people are reluctant to go. There are a lot of nerds here, so if you like computer games and acne and don't like talking to girls, you'll have plenty of friends. The fact that there are very few attractive girls just makes the social scene worse. All of the hot ones think they are the shit and confine themselves to hanging around the douchebags or claiming that they have a boyfriend at home instead of giving the normal guys (myself included) a shot. I've made some friends and we have some good times, but it's not the experience I was hoping for in college.Academically, I feel like I got the short end of the stick at this school. Don't get me wrong, there are some really great professors here who teach some pretty interesting classes, but I think they will all leave once they find that out. Most of the old-timers are kind of cranky whiners who don't want to do any more teaching than they have to. This contributes to the political science department being totally fragmented. There is no cohesion among the classes required for the major, mostly because the only requirements are to take a bunch of random political science classes. The classes themselves aren't really political science classes, they're political history classes. Most of the professors just talk about the history of some area of politics or of the politics of some country/region. I just don't feel prepared for anything after college. Let's just say it's a good thing I'm planning to go to law school.
Classes outside of my department have been a mixed bag. Some of them are really interesting, which I guess is because I have the benefit of hand-picking the best professors and classes (I fulfilled all of my core requirements through AP classes. Talk about foresight.). It really feels like the social science departments and their students are completely ignored by the school. Even the career center focuses exclusively on engineering and science students. If I want to get something done, I have to do it myself.
Anyways, I plan on graduating in three years and getting the hell out of Cleveland. The only reason I came here was because I didn't get into my dream schools and the only reason I've stayed is the (HUGE) scholarships they've given me. Overall, I would suggest making your choice based on personal preferences and the program you're looking to get into, because some are better than others. The bottom line is, this is a niche school which you will love if you have very specific interests that match this school's strengths. I just don't.
