It is true that Miami has a certain stereotypical image, and to an extent, students do a good job of maintaining this. However, it seems that freshmen are the ones who are the ones most concerned with maintaining the "image" and seniors, for the most part, don't care anymore. There are a lot of attractive people here and many who come from money, and this might be intimidating for some, but they are still people and most are very friendly. (This image is slowly changing however due to the tightening of admission standards.) There is a "work hard, play hard" philosophy, and many people do party (because there really isn't much else to do in Oxford…) but you can channel your energy into many different outlets if you choose not to pursue this lifestyle (Western, alternative hangouts, student groups, etc.). Additionally, Miami is very big on studying abroad (a large percentage go overseas, and Miami even has its own campus in Europe), and it is a great opportunity to expand your horizons and learn about different people and views. I love Miami. It is a beautiful campus, and I truly have learned a lot here—I know I will have no problem finding a job once I graduate. I have made some wonderful friends and memories. I have had the opportunity to go places, such as Italy, by just being in the right class. It's obviously not for everybody, but it shouldn't be crossed off a list for a silly reason.
