Major: English (This Major's Salary over time)
On any given day at Ohio Wesleyan , you’re likely to see a mix of hipsters, artists, intellectuals, and jocks. And most of these people are intent on fostering and exhibiting their individualism. This translates to a healthy population of creative minds, though it also leads to some problems. It’s hard to create a community from a lot of individuals. Ohio Wesleyan is such a tight community that the college focuses so much on team work and community service. With about three-quarters of the student population being white as well as liberal, it sometimes seems that the student body is much more homogenous than the administration likes to believe. Yet, you have 15% international students, which is super remarkable for a small college in the middle of Ohio. Surprisingly a lot of students from MA, CT and NY. But as you’ll find at any campus, generalities don’t tell the whole story. Due to the many New England types some students at times can be cold, pretentious, and alienating. The administration seems to be extremely aggressive about raising the quality of the student body and lowering the discount factor at the same time (difference betwen %change in financial aid and %change in tuition). As a student, I can feel the increasing selectivity by the exptetations of the students and by the alternatives of students coming here. In general people seem to apply to Ohio Wesleyan if they considered Denision, Gettysburg, one Ivy of another highly selective liberal arts college. More recently, OWU has added and renovated a lot of buildings. The Science Center is the newest addition to the list of buidlings. It is truly impressive both as an investment and as a science building. The trustees are talking about raising the endowment by another 3K in the few years which means a lot of new money for buildings or merit scholarship. I am disappointed to be graduating next year because it truly seems like great times are awating Ohio Wesleyan.
