Academics:
I graduated with a Spanish and Psychology double
major. Psych was a challenging (but not impossible) major, and
Spanish was decent- not great, but not bad. The quality
of any program really depends on which classes and professors
you have. Psych, Science, Econ, and English are the best
majors. Other programs- like Journalism and Computer Science- have small
departments that I never heard great things about.
Study Abroad:
I went to Salamanca, Spain my junior year
and it was a great program...but it was the ONLY
program I could go on as a Spanish major to
Spain. Unless of course, I wanted most of my financial
aid taken away and no guarantee of credit transfer! That
being said, if study abroad is important to you, know
that OWU has strict policies and makes it very difficult
if you don't choose from the limited program selection they
have.
People:
I am an open-minded person
and made a lot of cool international friends at OWU.
There are a lot of East Coasters, Ohioans, and international
students at OWU. Sorry to say not many of these
groups mixed, though I bet that would be the same
at any school. There are a lot of different clubs
to join and a large Greek life, if thats your
thing.
Delaware: A small cute town with not much
nightlife. Columbus is 25 minutes away. Find a friend with
a car. End of story.
Overall: I didn't like OWU
the first two years, but after my study abroad experience
I stuck it out and it ended up being an
ok/good time overall. The University has problems, but when I
was there they made drastic improvements each year. (Example: turning
a boring computer lab into a 24-hour coffee shop, renovating
one of the main dorm cafeterias, taking an empty frat
house and turning it into a student lounge, etc.) I
know they are currently renovating the gym, and the year
before I got there they just finished a brand new
science building. OWU is like wine...it keeps getting better with
age!
