State has some great professors, and the students are generally
friendly. WSU offers an assortment of majors and courses,
which I found surprising given that it's a small school.
You can access WSU's wireless internet service almost anywhere
on campus. The campus is also small compared to
other universities, and the buildings are close together, meaning an
average 5-minute walk between classes. However, because the majority
of students are commuters (about 82%), this university lacks social
activities. The few activities that do exist are rarely
attended. The university has a lot of student organizations,
but attendance at club meetings is minimal—sometimes because of class
schedules, but more often than not, it is lack of
interest that keeps even club members from going to their
club's meetings! The class size is large in the
first year or so, which makes it difficult for many
out-of-state commuters to make friends. Most people here have
lived in Ohio their entire lives, and I've talked to
quite a few who are ignorant about world events.
Moreover, most hang out with friends they've had since middle
school or high school, which makes it all the more
difficult to meet people. WSU is located in a
suburb in the midst of a big shopping area (a
shopping mall and several restaurants and stores). Although the
campus has numerous parking lots, these are usually full by
mid-morning and empty again by around 4:00 PM. If
you plan to commute, schedule yourself for early morning or
late afternoon classes, if possible! Overall, WSU is a
good school academic-wise, but if you're looking for a place
with a great social life, look elsewhere. After only
one year here, that's what I'm doing!
