All told, my experience at U of A was positive. It took the experience as a whole to realize that, however. I will say that I was very unhappy there for my first 1.5 years. The social scene can be somewhat limiting initially if you don't join the Greeks. However, you will eventually find like-minded and fun people to hang out with. Hell, this is a school of 35,000 people, there's something for everyone. I consider U of A to be a microcosm of real life, you have to reach out and grab opportunities to succeed academically and socially. I think that lesson is more valuable than any I learned in class. The academics at U of A can be challenging and enriching or a cakewalk depending on your attitude and willingness to look for opportunities. Socially it can be isolating before you find a niche, but once you find that niche, it cannot be beat anywhere. The women here are more beautiful than anywhere else in the nation and the parties more fun. Let's put it this way, I am currently attending grad school at the University of Miami, of all places, and I long for the crazy nights I had in Tucson. Especially if you're a frosh or sophomore and feeling depressed about the bleakness of Tucson and U of A, just give it time. Things will improve, I guarantee it.
