Business majors making negative comments are rather foolish. I think a business major is a waste of a college education. However, Eller is one of the top-rated business schools in the country. |
Major: Philosophy (This Major's Salary over time)
UofA is a wonderful university, depending on a) how dedicated you are, and b) what you want to study. I've noticed many negative comments on here; I've also noticed that most of them come from a select group of majors: business, psychology, education etc. These tend to be the most popular majors at any school, and UA is no exception. They're going to have huge classes, more bureaucracy, and more busywork than other majors—unfortunately, they'll have more idiots or unfriendly people as well. For other majors, e.g. philosophy, engineering, architecture, chemistry, classics, etc., the University is quite good. These departments (and others) are also internationally renowned at UA, which helps. The amazing thing about our school is that while we are one of the best research universities in the world and have some of the most incredible department, we still linger down in the 90s to 100s in national rankings. A big part of that is the Arizona state legislature's mandate that just about any student graduating from high school in Arizona is automatically admitted to any of our three universities (NAU, ASU, UA). This means that many kids are here who, frankly, shouldn't be here yet, and it drags down many of our programs, like English, as well as our retention and graduation rates, and SAT/ACT scores. Keep this in mind when considering UA, especially if you plan to go into one of the large majors.Oh, and if you want to study philosophy, come here. Over almost any university. Our program is fantastic, and incredibly challenging.
