Hello. I am going to the University of Arizona in the Fall of 2011 and I want to do Medicine. Any tips? Also, can you tell me more about general education classes and the teachers? I also want to know about the Spanish courses, since I am fluent (From Spain. How are the teachers and how is the coursework? Is the coursework heavy? |
Major: PreMed and Medical (This Major's Salary over time)
I don't really have anything horrible to say about UA. It just wasn't my cup of tea. With that being said, there were both some pros and cons that I found with my experience here.First of all, I found my adviser to be completely unhelpful when it came to figuring out the type and number of courses needed for my degree. She was completely ignorant. The professors I had were about average as far as gen-ed curriculum is concerned, however, have fun dealing with the math and Spanish departments. They are completely ridiculous. The housing on campus is okay. If you don't put your application in EARLY, don't expect to be put into a nice dorm. I lived in Coronado, which I ended up loving, but be aware that it is over run by Greeks.Onto my next point. Greeks rule the social scene. Frats have the best parties, however, there are a ton of off campus house parties or parties at The Seasons and other apartment complexes.Another thing I might want to mention is that it seems that almost every student here is from California or New Jersey. It's ridiculous. Expect to see a ton of bleach blonde bimbos and Snooki look-a-likes when you visit. As far as stuff to do off campus during the day… it's very limited. If you like to shop, plan on going up to Phoenix as the three malls down here suck. There are some decent shops and restaurants on University though. Also, if you're into outdoor things, you'll always find something to do.If you plan on eating on campus, options for that are actually quite extensive compared to most other universities. My cousins from the mid-west were actually shocked that the UA has a Panda Express and Chick-Fil-A in the student union.Overall, the school itself isn't bad. All I really have to show for my time there are a couple of pictures with lame celebrities that always seemed to be around campus (Ryan Sheckler and David Hasselhoff) and a few awesome friends. Besides that, I really didn't take away anything academically speaking.
