isnt a bad school if you are a hardcore art
or science major, you may enjoy the classes. but
one thing to consider is that this school is very
limited on majors and the majority of the credits you
take here will not transfer to other universities. there
are also about 2 yrs worth of credit hours of
interdisciplinary study courses (IDS) that every student is required to
take no matter what the major and these courses will
not transfer anywhere. i originally came here to play
baseball and now that i no longer play there is
no need for me to be here because they do
not offer what i want to do. i want
to go into sports medicine, but they do not offer
that at this university. so im going to transfer
to OU where only half of my credits are going
to transfer. it sucks but i have to get
my degree somehow since USAO does not offer a sports
med degree program. most of the ids classes are
a joke and serve no educational purpose except for writing
I and II. i dont believe that there should
be a requirement to take a course like world thought
which primarily focuses on ancient chinese philosophy. the campus
itself is a joke as well. the living quarters
are not worth what you pay and you are required
to pay for a meal plan no matter if you
use it or not and the cheapest meal plan is
over $800. i cannot use my meal plan because
im in class through the lunch hours of the cafeteria
and im off to work before it opens for dinner.
so im basically paying $800 for nothing and there
is no way to get out of it. i
am upset about that but i do not believe that
i am missing out on much. the quality of
the food in the dining facility is horrible. salad
bar items are not fresh but maybe once a week.
i have also, along with other students i know
here as well, gotten sick on more than 3 occasions
from the food in the dining facility. there is
a cafe above the cafeteria, but all of that food
is very poor quality as well. unless you like
grease, i would not recommend eating there. the dorms
are kept on lock down pretty much. the apartments
are not worth the $2300 a semester that im paying
to live. if there is any maintanence problems in
your apartment or dorm, you have to submit a report
to the RA (yes event the apartments have RA's) and
they in turn submit a request to maintanence and they
get to it when they get to it. this
applies to everything. i had to wait a semester
and a half just to get a new shower head,
so in that time i was having to use my
other roommates shower. it also took them 2 days
to fix a broken toilet that would not flush even
after it had been used. so there was a
toilet full of urine that sat there. it also
took them a week just to get someone up to
look at why our a/c was broken and this was
in early september, so it was still pretty hot here.
so for a week we were living with no
air conditioning. maintanence would not help me when i
went to there office to follow up on the report
which turned out never to be filed. they also
regulate alcohol on campus. you can drink but you
cannot have anything more than 3.2% alcoholic beverages in your
apartmet. the dorms are dry. i was in
trouble ($100 fine, semester probation, community service, and substance abuse
class) for having a bottle of rum in my room,
even though im above the legal age to drink.
i figured i was doing the safe, responsible thing by
staying home instead of going out to a local bar
and then driving drunk. the book store is a
joke as well. all of the books are way
over priced and there is no sure thing that they
will buy them back. i had a friend try
to sell back a book last year and they would
not buy it back because they said they were using
a new edition this year. well this year im
in the exact same class he took and they are
still using the book that he had. they also
did this with one of my history books. and
both books were in good condition upon return. for
the most part this place is no different than a
high school. the community is terrible also. chickasha,
ok is not a fun place. it is a
poor white trash community, there is nothing to do here
and the closest fun town is 45 min away.
there are only a handful of restaurants that are not
very good and the local bars look like the ones
in the movie roadhouse. all in all this school
and surrounding community are not a place where you can
enjoy your college years
