In Oregon, would U of O be still the school for C.S. studies or would you go elsewhere in or out of state ? Give me your top choices. Was thinking of WOU, OSU or UofO. Heard U of Washington is very good but far away now. |
UO is more theoretical, OSU is more applied. UO is a better school and has more of a national reputation. Visit both schools and determine which is a better fit. |
Major: Computer Science (This Major's Salary over time)
Eugene is pretty nice place. People including residents, students and faculties are quite friendly. It rains a lot in the winter/spring, but it is ok with me. The computer science department offer most of courses emphasizing on theories, but not much on engineering side. I found I have to learn a lot of new stuffs at work to keep up. I found the experience of doing those course projects did help me a lot in dealing with work-related projects. I graduated in the dot com boom time, it was quite easy for me to find a decent job. At economy downturn, UO CS students may have a hard time in landing a IT job. UO is not well-known in california. Even though I have quite a few collegues are from UC Berkeley, I am not impressed by their capabilities in resolving problems. So if you are working hard in the graduate school, you won't be much behind. But the reputation may hurt your chances.
