I
think UO is a great school, although it really depends
on your major. I am an Economics major, and
I feel the Econ department is very strong; however, I've
also taken several upper-division math classes, and I felt the
professors in those classes were more involved with their research
than they were with their students. So it's hit
and miss, but I feel there are far more “hits”
than “misses.” If you're looking for just the
applied, practical academic programs, try OSU or PSU, as UO
is more about the liberal arts education than the applied
pragmatic approach (not saying this is bad, just be prepared
for it).
I personally love the city of Eugene.
If you’re a conservative person, you may not feel welcome
by the myriad of liberal hippies, but for everybody else,
it's great! The weather is not too bad, just
be prepared for lots of rain (over half the days
in winter and spring will have rain).
All-in-all, if you
know what to expect (strong academics in most programs, liberal
arts based academics, lots of hippies, and lots of rain),
then you will probably enjoy UO, otherwise try someplace else.
