I have loved my first two years at University of Oregon. I'll start off by addressing the negatives. As a freshman at the U of O, you will have some very large intro classes (over 300 students). These classes are often boring and its hard to pay attention when are you feel so disconnected to the professor. On the other hand, most professors are available during office hours and are very helpful when you go to see them. Eugene is a nice town with tons of outdoor activities. Most students on campus are very active and love the outdoors. UO has a great “outdoor pursuits program. Eugenes nightlife is pretty good in terms of the bar scene, but definitely lacking when it comes to the clubbing scene. If you arent 21, there are many house parties in the campus area and Greek life is always an option. For non-drinkers, there are movie theaters nearby and the music scene here is pretty solid. Dont come to Eugene expecting it to be like a big city. New York, San Francisco, and Chicago it is not.

I am double majoring in business administration and economics. Both of these departments have very good reputations on campus. The only complaint I have is about some of the foreign professors in the business department. These professors are difficult to understand during lectures, but are generally friendly and can explain things more clearly during their office hours. The economics department is pretty focused on their research, but there is always someone there who will help you out if you have a problem.

The campus is absolutely gorgeous. Every day when I am walking to class, I am amazed by beautiful this campus is. It feels like you are walking through a park because of the vast number of trees on campus. The architecture is stunning as seen in Lillis, the Knight Library, the science buildings, among others.

Im from the Bay Area and people are much friendlier in Oregon than California. Theres something about Oregon that makes people relaxed and open, maybe its the marijuana :) Really, the people here are among the nicest Ive met.

The weather isnt too bad here. The winters can get moderately cold, but nothing like the Midwest or East Coast. Be warned that it does rain A LOT here. While it wont be a constant downpour, expect the winters to be filled with weeks of light drizzle without interruption. Make sure to bring your umbrella.

Now on to the athletics. There is a lot of school spirit here. The football games are amazing and all students must experience what it is like to be at Autzen Stadium on a cool (but not rainy-it never rains at Autzen) Saturday afternoon. The basketball team is really good too and Mac Court is a historic place to watch a basketball. Oregon just added a baseball team which will start competing in the Pac 10 next year.

I got into UC Davis, UC Santa Barbara, UC Irvine, University of Washington, University of Colorado Boulder and University of Wisconsin Madison and still chose Oregon, despite it not being seen as quite as prestigious as the others (according to US News). I fell in love with the school the moment I set on campus. My peers are bright, friendly, and are generally involved in a lot of activities (clubs, intramural sports, community service, etc..) Coming to Oregon was the best decision Ive ever made. Im proud to be a Duck!

commentThere is nothing elite nor world class about the U of O. If you're willing to pay $31k for this place, then you're not very bright. I don't know if you're a shill or not, but what you posted is nonsense…
