Dude that sounds AWESOME! |
I'm so sorry you went through this.. Right now I go to University of South Florida (Tampa, Fl) and this school sounds like what I am trying to get away from… Thank you for posting an honest review. Natasha |
I transferred to UO two years ago and I completely disagree. The school is big enough where you have many different groups of people. I transferred from CU-Boulder and CU was way more intense and less academically oriented than Oregon. |
How in the world can anyone say that U of O is anyway academically oriented? The bulk of classes are remedial math and English. The most flunked class is College Algebra, which is nothing but a blown up high school algebra/trig course. Not one single department is considered elite nor world class. Too many U of Oregon shills commenting on this here blog… |
Major: Economics (This Major's Salary over time)
I decided to go to the UO, just so I wouldn't have to live in a dorm. But man, if I could go back in time and make that decision again, I'd apply somewhere else. I had an ACT score high enough for Duke or Cornell, and now I'm kicking myself for not even trying. The University of Oregon isn't even worth its value in in-state tuition. The Economics department is extremely short on professors. It's annoying to have to take classes taught by grad students. I'm paying good money to go here, so I should be able to at least get an actual professor. In fact, I've been screwed over by grad students twice (one taught the actual class, and one did a lab session for a different class). Not to mention that most of the profs seem to take a vacation spring term, so for 1/3 of the year there's an even lower choice of classes than usual (which isn't very good to begin with). I will say this, though: all the actual professors I've had in the Econ department were good. The students here are stupid assholes. All they care about is drinking, smoking weed, and skateboarding. A lot of So-Cal idiots come here for our business school. Sadly for me, taking Econ and Chinese classes = lots of idiot So-Cal business majors. This school is almost completely void of any interesting people. I've been here for almost 2 years, and I've yet to make ONE friend. Pretty much NObody here is independent minded. Obama's cult of personality is very strong here. Everyone raves about the campus, but besides the trees and grass, I think it's a rather ugly campus. Most of the desks are so uncomfortable, that your back hurts by the end of the day. The students, and the rest of the town, are extremely over-enthusiastic about our stupid football team. So, here's the conclusion: if you're from So-Cal, want to be a business major, all while going through college in a high/drunk haze along with a homogenous student body where almost everyone is exactly like you, you will love the UO.But if you're not a stereotypical college student, and you're looking to get a good education, and meet other interesting and quirky people like yourself who don't need hedonism to have fun, you're out of luck. This school killed my spirit, and if you're anything like me, it'll kill yours too.
