| Arcadia
University is fabulous. Aside from the excessive study abroad
opportunuties and the week long London Preview for $245, Arcadia's
Glenside campus is well worth the money. The schoolwork may
seem normal during freshman year, but as you advance the
work gets more challenging, but not overwhelming. There are countless
tutoring centers for ALL subjects if you have problems and
the teachers are extremely accessible since it's a small campus.
The small campus environment makes everything more intimate...people know
you by name and face, not by an ID number.
Everything is close together, so much so, that you can
go to class or to eat in your PJ's and
slippers...and no one would care. It's been said
that the school is boring for the most part, but
thats simply not true. Arcadia is only boring for people
who only want to party ALL THE TIME. It's
simply not like that here, unless you make friends who
always party in their rooms(which is not hard to find
if that's your thing). We have dances, a formal
cotillion, a masquerade ball, Mr. Beaver(which is a mock male
beauty pagent, so hilarious!), comedians, singers, coffee houses, hypnotists, Woodstock,
Numerous theater productions and we actually had a mechanical bull
riding contest & Mr. Belding this year! And 95% of
the events are free...Not to mention the pool, sauna, gameroom,
sport fields, and countless clubs & organizations. There is no
way you can be bored here unless you're sitting on
your a** complaining about how cheesy everything is before even
trying it. Negative aspects of Arcadia is the lack of
diversity and some closedmindedness and immaturty from students. Arcadia is
about 70% white and about the same percentage female...so males,
African Americans, Latinos, Asians, and many other ethnic groups are
truly a minority. Some people who come from small, sheltered
towns or families can be very stereotypical, unaccepting, or uninterested
in people of other cultures, which puts some tension in
the environment. However, those closedminded people are a minorty
themselves, as our school as a whole is dedicated to
celebrating diversity and culture and most people get along wonderfully
despite race or religion. Some people can be immature d**ks,
vandalizing, pulling down decorations, and drawing obscene images on the
walls. But this is a small campus, so somebosy usually
always sees who does it, and they get in serious,
serious trouble with the university. Noise can be an issue
once people start making friends...you know, people laughing, joking, not
realizing how disruptive they are to their neighbors, but that
problem is easily fixed through yur RA...and besides, you always
have somewhere nearby thats quiet and serene to escape to.
So even though there are somethings that can ruin the
environment the school is usually peaceful, which problems being solved
swiftly. If you have ANY questions about the social, political,
or academic aspects of Arcadia, feel free to ask! My
