| Gettysburg
is a wonderful school…if it’s what you’re looking for.
First of all it is small and very personal; you
won’t feel lost. The campus is beautiful and easy
to get around. Courses can be challenging but you
leave feeling like you learned something. The professors I
have encountered are friendly and very approachable; most are willing
to help you out. The food is good, and
it is one of the things we brag about when
promoting the school. Freshman housing is pretty good…there are
some really nice dorms and some that aren’t as popular,
but still decent. There are some great housing options
for upper class students. I was a little wary
when I heard about how the frats and sororities are
the center of everything but if you aren’t into that
stuff then you don’t even notice. Some people say
that there’s nothing to do besides frat parties but this
is NOT true; there are always events going on during
the week and weekends. It is also said that
G’Burg students are preppy and stuck-up. Well, some are, but
overall most people are nice and friendly. I met
many wonderful people here, and it is not hard to
find a group that you fit in with. Some
complain about a lack of diversity, and that might be
true regarding race/ethnicity, but there is plenty of diversity in
types the types of people you find here, which is
great. The town of Gettysburg is often criticized for
being dull and lacking in things to do, but Gettysburg
is a major tourist attraction. Therefore there are many
restaurants and some shopping centers in and around town.
You don’t need a car to get around the main
part town because it is within a few minutes walking
distance from campus. The whole area (including the campus)
is so tied up with its history—you can’t spit around
here without hitting a monument or something of importance, and
it really is an incredible experience if you make use
of it. I have very few complaints about the
school, and they are very minor and probably common in
most schools anyway. The number one cause of complaint
here is the tuition—it’s pretty high, but it is a
private school, so it is to be expected. A
common phrase heard on campus is “We pay $30,000 to
go here and they can’t even…” (fill in the blank).
Despite this I am very happy with this school
and highly recommend it those who have done their research
and are interested in G’Burg.
