There are both pros and cons to coming to Penn. I really love the environment; the campus is attractive and isolated enough for me to feel like I am in a college atmosphere, but less than 20 blocks away (a nice walk or a bus/subway ride) is the center of a city which has a lot of great places to go. There are inexpensive tickets to popular concerts, the symphony, and amazing plays. The city also hosts festivals (music, film, etc.), has good restaurants, and basically has most of the cultural and popular attractions you could want. It's also close to other large cities like New York, Boston, DC, etc. that are easy to get to by public transportation.

However, both professors and classes seem hit or miss. I've taken both amazing ones and awful ones that I could barely force myself to go to (and sometimes didn't). There are great people, but sometimes it feels like you really have to search to find them. A lot of people are snobby or vain and many do not want to venture outside of the circle of friends they make during orientation. The freshman dorm rooms (especially in Hill) are small (but Hill in particular is friendlier than other dorms). The food isn't great; it's not awful, but you do get sick of it by second semester, and a meal plan is required for the entire year. Different extracurricular activities are available.

It's great for people who want to party nonstop, but not as spectacular for those who think a good Saturday night is watching a movie with friends (although that applies more so freshman year than any other year). Thursday-Saturday night, especially during specific weekends, it is sometimes hard to find anyone not out partying. Sometimes, it feels like debauchery and alcoholism rule here.

So, pick what's most important to you. You might want to hang out at the dorms and talk to some people to get an idea of what the life is like because as important it is to like the classes, you might want to consider the social aspects too.
