Penn is an incredible, awesome place. Of course there are stereotypes associated with the school, but really the school is very big, so there is something for everyone here. If you are an indie nerd, you will never be bothered by the jewish princesses or the greek system. I think I was a pretty non-mainstream Penn person in that I fit none of the stereotypes, but I still managed to be extremely involved in student life and have the best four years of my life there. I can only see people having problems at Penn if they have trouble finding the people, classes, and groups that are the best fit for you. They are out there, but they can be hard to find sometimes in a school the size of Penn's. I would say DON'T go to Penn if you don't think you'd want to join a student group of any kind. Because the school is so big, it's hard to feel a sense of community and to make lots of friends if you aren't in a group. There are so many different types of groups, though: performing arts, greek, academic, club sports, government, racial/ethnic/cultural, etc.
