Okay, first and foremost: If you are scared of cities, scared of taking the initiative in meeting new people, scared of rich kids, etc…DON'T GO TO PENN!! If you do, and you don't have fun, it's your own fault.

I've only had one problem with the language barrier, with my Stat professor. And my TA spoke perfect English and was willing to have as many extra sessions as it took to help us understand the material. Other than that, I've found most of my professors to be extremely interesting lecturers who are interested in hearing your point of view, no matter how asinine it may be. I've had some lectures, nothing bigger than 200 (and the recitations are only about 10-15 people usually), but at least 1 20 person seminar, and 1 <50 person seminar/lecture per semester, and I've been in classes taught by the Dean of Annenburg, and the former president of the University.

Here's the straight. I'm a double legacy. I spent the first 16 years of my life swearing up and down that nothing in hell could get me to go to penn. My parents are both Whartonites and frankly, business majors are creepy (even my friends). But then all those stupid college surveys kept saying I should look at the school, so I did. And I couldn't be happier.

YES, Penn has Jewish kids. Yeah, there are Asians too. There're also plenty of WASPS, Catholics, Punks, etc, if only so the school can brag about having a student from every state. Yes, frats are a bit prominent on campus. So you can either a) go hang out with the majority of students who aren't in frats/sororities, b) go enjoy the city that's a half-block from your door, c) sit in your room an study, d) all of the above. Your social life at Penn will be what you make of it, it won't seek you out.

I don't do drugs. Some of my friends smoke some stuff. I've never witnessed anyone doing a harder drug. I'm sure there are people who do, but I've never seen it. It's called avoiding people who do stuff you have issues with. Maturity. That's why you're going to college in the first place.

There's a fair amount of work, but not so much that you can't have fun. Before I came to the school I hated basketball and football, but now I'm probably the biggest Quaker fan short of the hot-dog guy.

No, West Philly is not Beverly Hills. But contrary to popular belief, we're not all cowering in fear of the gasp urban people. If you're not wandering around 43rd street, drunk & alone at 2 in the morning, nothing's (probably) going to happen to you. Don't get cocky about it, have some common sense, and you'll be fine.

I really do love Penn. The school values its traditions and so do I . If you're looking for a school that's in a city, with a diverse population, with traditions you can become loyal to, and with a killer reputation (even though your friends haven't ever heard of us, the guy looking at your resume will have)- just apply already.
