The greatest thing about Penn is that offers everything imaginable under the sun, and there is a niche for everyone to fit into. If you want to get drunk every night of the week, you can. If you want to spend all your time in the city going to art galleries and the opera, that's an option too. No matter what you like, you'll find friends to share your interests. There are a lot of stereotypes about the student body at Penn and to be honest, a lot of them are based on reality. There are japs, and super driven non intellectual types, but Penn is a large enough school that if you don't like some of the people you meet, there is no shortage of other amazing, interesting people.

The same goes for academics. You'll hear complaints about the emphasis on pre-professional/Wharton, and it's true that certain departments have more money and resources than others. But departments like Environmental Science make up for that with lots of personal attention and passionate students and professors.

And don't be misled about West Philadelphia. It's a great place, really, and not unsafe either as long as you have a grain of common sense. In fact, one of the {many} great things about Penn is that there are so many opportunities to get involved with the local community, and to realize that there is a world beyond the narrow academic bubble.

Moral of the story: Penn is the best school on earth and you should come!
