Penn is an excellent school in almost every respect. It has improved dramatically in the last five years, going from good to one of the best. Campus safety is an issue, but on the actual campus, security is tight; those not used to the big city can stay secluded until they grow more comfortable. A large and diverse academic community allows you to hang with the type of people you like, and any night of the week you can go to any of half a dozen parties if you wish.

I am a member of the Vagelos Scholars Biochemistry program, and I would recommend it to any looking for a challenge that field. Any science student can work with professors in an on campus lab; the wistar insitute, located on campus only 1 block from the Chemistry building, offers almost unlimited opportunities for biochemical research.
