Major: Biology (This Major's Salary over time)
I am currently a sophomore at Salve Regina University from the state of Maine. I am a Biology major with a Chemistry minor. I am on the Cross Country team and in the Salve Regina Environmental Club. My experiences at Salve over the past one and a half years have been positive.

The Biology Department at Salve Regina is challenging and progressive. As a sophomore, one of the classes I am taking is called Biotechniques. In this class, students work independently utilizing two different strains of a parasitic protozoan disease. Comparing gene relatedness is analyzed between the two strains of the disease by using amplified fragment length polymorphism and polymerase chain reaction. I find this class to be very helpful and informative because of its hands-on laboratory work.

Cross Country at Salve has opened up experiences and memories that I will have with me for a lifetime. The athletes on the team are some of my best friends. I love division III because it's competitive, however, relaxed at the same time. For example, one week we will compete in a regional meet with up to 50 teams. The next week we will have a meet with 5-10 schools.
Furthermore, I have been having a great time at Salve Regina. The problems individuals' seem to have with Salve are its academics and social life. The social life at Salve is what you make of it - just like any other school. There are beaches, many restaurants & bars, and student activities on Friday nights. If you want to go out and party just go to an upperclassman's house or take the RIPTA to Providence. There are so many things to do. The people that complain about campus life are the individuals who don't know how to entertain themselves occasionally. My major keeps me busy enough as is. I'm not sure why it's so hard to comprehend that going to school in a historical district is not going to be a huge party school.
