URI is not a great school for out of state kids. If you are in-state and you want to stay close with your high school friends, it's a great, cheap option to get a decent education. The work is not challenging for the most part unless you really struggle in a certain area. But if you are at least average in school, you will do great. That's a good or bad thing depending on who you ask I guess.

If you like to party be prepared to 1. Join a fraternity or 2. Struggle finding a place to go every night. Personally I don't want to join a fraternity just to drink, the idea of one just doesn't appeal to me very much. I am here first and foremost to get a good education but I also want to have fun. All parties (besides Frat parties) are held off-campus and are a good 20 minute car ride away. These parties can be good at times, they often get broken up, but they are not bad. I forewarn though you will need to find a car and someone willing to DD. That is almost an impossible task. If you are the type to drive drunk this is the place to do it, I guess. Drunk driving is the main source of transportation to off campus parties. A girl just died last weekend driving off campus and sadly she won't be the last. The alternative to not going off campus usually ends up with a lame night of playing mario kart and drinking natty light, not a great time.

We are also nicknamed You Are High. Pot smoking must of been on the application somewhere because I swear over 50% of people here smoke, if not more. If that's gonna be a problem for you be warned.

Overall URI is not great for out-of-state students or RI kids who want a change. If you from RI, not much will change. You will probably end up drinking in your high school buddies dorm room on the weekends, which for old friends is just fine. But if you want a total college experience, don't bother here. If you want a great education, parties to go to with easy access, good college sports with passionate fans, and to meet new people then URI is not the place for you.
