Major: Engineering Department (This Major's Salary over time)
I have had the pleasure to spend time at some of the South's finest engineering universities with some of her finest students, and I am confident that no university anywhere has better students, better faculty, or an overall better experience than Clemson. Our administration is extremely helpful and willing to listen to student suggestions. The campus is spacious and green and uniquely American…it is as if the buildings sprang from the clay of the devastated South following Reconstruction. The town and area are spirited and full of things to do for those sharp and creative enough to look around and learn. If you like to hike, to ski, or to do any other outdoor activity, no town in The Palmetto State offers more such opportunities than Clemson. And while all of these things are important contributors to what make Clemson unique, they are hardly the most important factor. Most Clemson people, The Clemson Family, have a loyalty and a spirit about them that sets them apart. Other people see it. Other people recognize and envy it. That fire, that pride, that independence is what makes Clemson great and gives us the strength and the power to press on and improve in a state challenged by lack of money and lack of leadership. And one day, it is that strength that will lead South Carolina back to national prominence…even if her "leaders" must be dragged kicking and screaming to that point.Students considering Clemson should visit in the fall for a home football weekend and again in the spring. Visit with a few departments you're interested in, and get an idea about what major you want to start in. When you choose Clemson and move in, get involved! While I am from South Carolina, I was from a TINY high school - but not knowing people before I got here didn't hurt me. There are tons of things to do if you're willing to get out and meet people (religious groups, professional societies, Greek groups, intramurals, etc etc). So many people leave college unfulfilled, unconfident, and unsure of who they are and what they want to do - these people did not attend Clemson. If you doubt your ability to hang in at a school like Clemson, DON'T…there are people here willing and able to help you with any problem you might have. If you think spending a lot of money on some small liberal arts school is better, YOU'RE WRONG…and one year at a school like that will probably prove it to you. Who wants four more years of high school? New students coming to Clemson will have an opportunity to be a part of something special as Clemson continues to rise in collegiate rankings, all while retaining the gifts and values that make her special. The Clemson experience, and becoming a part of The Clemson Family, is something that I wouldn't trade for anything. I am sure that anything else would have been a waste of my time.
