If you ask me, MTSU certainly isn't a bad school. After attending the University of Tennessee at Knoxville for a semester, MTSU was quite a change. I didn't feel like a number anymore, and I actually began meeting friendly people.

The campus itself is pretty nice, and there is usually some activity going on every night - anything from intramural sports to the $2 movies shown at the theater. Also, you can get involved with lots of different clubs and groups. However, if those aren't your thing, don't worry. While sports and Greek organizations do have an enthusiastic following, they don't completely "rule the school" as they might in other locations. The campus has its own police force, and it feels pretty safe to walk around. The surrounding city of Murfreesboro is very accepting of the college, and is a nice suburban town with everything you could possibly need within driving distance. Most of the MTSU faculty and staff are also decently nice. I've met a few bad eggs, but the rest were nice and helpful. The classwork they give you isn't too terrible, but the teacher you choose will certainly make a difference.

MTSU does have its problems, however. Parking is eternally a problem, and getting a good space is quite a feat, especially on class days. Also, MTSU housing isn't the nicest. The dorms are all old, and many of the rooms are very small. Even so, they are kept decently clean, and become great communities once everyone has moved in. The food is a different story. What is served in the university's two cafeterias can range from good to downright awful. Yet they also provide students with places that serve Pizza Hut, Burger King, Chik-Fil-A, and Subway, which taste a lot better. The MTSU bookstore is nice, but terribly overpriced, and many cheaper bookstores are nearby. One final downside is how confusing the process of getting something done can be. In order to get a parking pass or something else, you may have to visit five different places to find the right office or get the right signature. But most people are helpful along the way!

Overall, MTSU is a decent place to go to school. It's in a nice, suburban location that's only around 45 minutes from Nashville and probably two hours from Chattanooga. Its tuition rate is one of the lowest in the state, and it is home to a lot of diverse, yet nice people.
