Okay. I'm graduating in December of this year. Throughout my 4.5 years here, I have had some good and not-so-good experiences here. I'll make a haphazard list of what I've experienced.

On Campus Housing- I lived in Corlew Hall my freshman year. Lucky me, I lived in it the year BEFORE they did the renovations to it. There are good and bad things about dorm life, regardless of the caliber of dorm you're staying in. The GOOD is learning to be around other people whom you may or may not want to be around and you learn to pick your battles. Obviously, the BAD is people always being in your space, the bathrooms are usually community bathrooms, and there are always those select few that feel that running down the hallways at 3 in the morning is acceptable. Although I would loathe staying on campus again, I DO think it would behoove students to experience it at least for 1 year.

Dining- There's no reason to have high hopes for cafeteria food, so I wasn't disappointed in the, once again, cafeteria-type food that is served on campus. The KUC Grille area has non-cafeteria food, so if you need a break, that's the place to go. Otherwise, shut up and get over it. You're not going to college to enjoy a 5-star menu.

Campus- In the 4 years I've been here, I've endured multiple renovations, construction zones, etc. But I must say, President McPhee has outdone himself this year. Campus is completely torn up, the parking situation is beyond idiotic, and yet we still have to yield to these pointless high school basketball tournaments hosted at the Murphy Center and give up parking spaces that MY TUITION MONEY pays for. This is a major sore spot for me, and I am preparing to write Mr. McPhee a nice little letter about it. On the other side, they are actively renovating buildings on campus that really need it. The science building is the next one on schedule to be updated, and it sorely needs it. They're currently building a new student center and they have recently completed the new College of Education building, which is very, very nice. The library is also fantastic…and not just because it's equipped with a Starbucks on the 1st floor (although that's a huge plus). The rec center is also very nice, but it can get super crowded at certain points in the day, so don't expect to be the only one in the whole joint for the duration of your exercise routine. All in all, really the only sore point is the parking situation. Other than that, things are pretty much get-what-you-pay-for.

Student Body- My perception of the student body is that they generally have a desire to learn, BUT a lot of them are too lazy to really work hard for their grades. Usually your classes will start out full, then about 2 weeks into the semester, the classes will be sparsely populated until exam days, depending on the professor's attendance policy. I abhor laziness, and I generally do not help those that do not come to class by sharing notes, or what have you.

All in all, I don't think this is a terrible university, hence the rating of my comment "neutral". I can't imagine myself attending another university for my undergrad degree. I checked out several other universities and got accepted to all of them, but I finally settled on MTSU, and I do not regret my decision. Every university is going to come with its ups and downs; when you go to visit any campus, I highly suggest you ask as many questions as possible, regardless of how stupid they may seem. Ultimately, you are setting the stage for the rest of your life; any question asked in that context is worth asking. MTSU is far from perfect in any regard, but I really have grown as a person and as a student from attending here, and that's all anyone could really ask of any university. Just choose whichever college you feel you belong the most with, and go with it.
