Abilene Christian University is an okay university. The campus is prettier than I expected it to be for West Texas. The dorms are above average. But Abilene sucks- badly- and there is little to do except drink off campus on weekends. The faculty is EXTREMELY friendly and accessible, though I wish they were more scholarly and challenging. I found myself academically bored frequently. The students tend to not be especially intelligent and are rather closed-minded in their religious fervor. Very anti-gay, anti-feminist, anti-liberal. I drift from religious liberalism to secularism, so the religious students plus daily chapel plus 12 hours of required bible classes plus stupid fights over musical instruments in the church or women's roles in the newspaper drove me crazy.
