While the teachers and class sizes are great, the point that it falls apart for me has primarily been the Vet Center. I am a transfer student and when applying for my VA benefits and getting advice through them I was instructed to fill out the VA form 22-1990, after about two weeks of waiting I went to the Vet Center to check the status of the form and was told by the sole person working in the main lobby that ?yeah, looks like they are going to deny your form.? No help or advice after saying that, just back to the phone to answer the never ending stream of calls. Never mind the fact I made the effort to be there in person or the fact there is someone in an office in the back, I may as well not even existed. After calling the VA itself, seeing as the Vet Center was useless other than being a computer lab, I found out that the form I actually needed was the VA form 22-1995 to start my benefits. The person I had spoken with on the phone at the Vet Center had not even paid attention when I told him I was a transfer student but never used my GI Bill benefits or made a mistake and did not fully know his job. After filling out the form 22-1995 I received mail that was asking for more information. Begrudgingly I went to the Vet Center for advice and they were more than helpful that day. They told me what to fill out and faxed the paperwork right then and there. I had hope in them once again that they were actually the veteran friendly school that it seems to brag about. With that fax, I was finally approved for my GI Bill benefit to pay for solely the school tuition. However, the Vet Center is still sitting on the paperwork needed by the VA so they can confirm my enrollment to pay the housing and book stipend, how this works out the way it does I have no idea. I had called the Vet Center either Monday or Tuesday to ask about this and was told it was sitting under a stack of paperwork that they would get to. This Thursday I walked into the Vet Center to check the status and the entire office was gathered around a computer talking about how beautiful the windows and kitchen was on a house viewing the outside of it through street view on google maps. I was told by one of the ladies clustered around the computer that I would receive an email letting me know when they had sent in the needed paperwork, so I checked my email while I was there and still no confirmation. So evidently there is a stack of paperwork needed to complete but their focus is on some house viewed on google. I?m still waiting to get the full extent of the benefits from this center that is touted as being vet friendly, and if this is what taking care of your veterans looks like and is one of the better examples I can?t imagine what the others look like. This is pathetic, plain and simple. I have had other issues with Student Accounts as well, but they at least had the courtesy and initiative to call me up the following day to give me more information on getting a refund after using an emergency loan while waiting on my GI Bill. Overall, the school and facilities are nice and if you either know your way around the VA or don?t need them then the Vet Center is a non-issue, but for me it has been source of frustration and problems that still persist.
