Date: Aug 20 2003 Major: Other (This Major's Salary over time) Southwest Texas State University is in need of improvement, however; I strongly believe that it is a university where one can get out of it exactly what they put into it. Southwest Texas State University, soon to be Texas State University-San Marcos, is certainly not deserving of its reputation of a party-school. Unfortunately, the name change is the only way to shake this stigma/image that has been following it around for years. It is an institution of higher learning, and deserves to be taken seriously. It is in serious need of both a heart and a soul. Alumni apathy runs rampant at SWT. If this were not the case, do you honestly think that the alumni would have let this name change go through? Mark my words, within the next 20 years or so (maybe sooner) it will be absorbed into the Texas A&M System, unfortunately. Not that there is a single thing wrong with Texas A&M, it is a fantastic school with proud heritage rich in tradition. SWTSU is equally as good (from an academic standpoint), it just lacks the aforementioned heart and soul. Maybe, someday, it will achieve this, too.Respectfully,2001 SWT AlumGO BOBCATS!!
